- Tuck a small section of the flap into the groove on the back of the topper to secure the new mitered corner in place. Repeat the process on the other corner and finish tucking across the entire groove on the back of the topper.
Your topper will look like this. Repeat these steps on the other outside rail of the topper. You will then be ready to apply your fabric to the middle section.
- For a smooth finish place the fabric strip for the middle section in place and tuck along the top and bottom.

- For a pleated look, pull an inch or so of the loose material over the tucked material, hold in place and tuck the top and bottom, continue to end of topper.

- The gathered look creates a more dimension and interest to your cornice. When measuring for gathers add three or four inches to the width and double or triple the length of the fabric strip. Tuck in a bit at the center and a bit at each end of the return.
Complete by gathering and tucking the fabric into a tuck groove. Continue this until one side of the strip is tucked into one of the grooves. Then tuck the opposite side into the other tuck groove. When the whole strip has been tucked in, you can adjust the material until you like the appearance. Several short strips of fabric can be used. If you combine flat and gathered styles, do the flat strips first.
